Geneva Excursion 2009

During an excursion to Geneva from Feb.16-18 MEG students gained valuable insights in the inner workings of various UN agencies, the World Trade Organization, IUCN and NGOs. International conventions, such as Aarhus, Ramsar, or CITES were brought to life in stimulating and memorable presentations, with Rudi the Black Rhino probably claiming the top spot. The broad array of topics and activities was impressive and engaging and led at least one MEG student to secure an internship on the spot. A superb Ethiopian group dinner, expert advice on Ethiopian cuisine included, rounded out the first day. The MEG Program is especially grateful to UNECE-FAO’s Timber Section for acting as our liaison in Geneva. On the way back everybody agreed that this trip should be repeated next year with a new generation of MEG students.
